How to Track Ovulation at Home
Simple methods to pinpoint ovulation using OPKs, BBT charting, and cervical mucus observation.
Ovulation predictor kits (OPKs) detect the luteinizing hormone (LH) surge that occurs 24–36 hours before ovulation. For most accurate results, test in the early afternoon.
BBT Charting
Take your temperature each morning before getting out of bed. After ovulation, progesterone causes a sustained temperature rise of 0.2–0.5 °C.
Cervical Mucus Method
As estrogen rises before ovulation, cervical mucus becomes increasingly wet and slippery. Peak fertility coincides with clear, stretchy mucus.
Combining Methods
Using two or more methods together (known as the symptothermal method) provides the most reliable picture of your cycle.
