Understanding Your Baby's Kick Counts
Counting fetal movements is a simple way to monitor your baby's well-being in the third trimester.

Starting around week 28, your healthcare provider may ask you to track your baby's movements daily.
How to Count
- Choose a time when your baby is typically active (often after meals)
- Lie on your side or sit comfortably
- Note the time and count each movement (kick, roll, jab)
- You should feel at least 10 movements within 2 hours
What Is Normal
Most babies will reach 10 movements well within one hour. Each baby has their own pattern — what matters is consistency.
When to Call Your Doctor
- Fewer than 10 movements in 2 hours
- A significant change in your baby's usual pattern
- Sudden decrease in movement
Kick counting is one of the simplest and most effective ways to monitor fetal well-being at home.
