Second Trimester: Your Baby's Growth Spurt
Weeks 13–26 bring renewed energy, visible growth, and exciting milestones like feeling baby move.

Often called the "golden trimester," many women find their energy returns and morning sickness fades. Your baby grows from the size of a peach to about 14 inches long.
What Is Happening
- Weeks 13–16: Baby can make facial expressions and may begin sucking their thumb
- Weeks 17–20: You may start feeling "quickening" — those first fluttery movements
- Week 20: The anatomy scan reveals baby's major structures and often the sex
- Weeks 21–26: Baby develops hearing and can respond to sounds
Your Body
Your belly becomes visibly pregnant. You may experience round ligament pain, skin changes (the "pregnancy glow"), and nasal congestion from increased blood flow.
Important Screenings
The anatomy scan at 18–22 weeks is one of the most detailed ultrasounds of your pregnancy. This is also when many parents book a 3D/4D keepsake ultrasound.
